HSP XSTR parts

Searching for HSP parts has been a chore...

A few months ago i had purchased an HSP Xstr mainly because of its pricing. Kinda skeptical about it. The day came for it to be delivered and i was more than excited. I took it out of the box and was very impressed of the quality for the price. I have made many changes to it the first being the motor, from a brushed stock to a Velineon Brush-less.

Now that the buggy is scooting along it has a higher chance to get in a more damaging crash. I have been lucky thought to have only bent the shock tower and was able to just bend it back. The thing that got me searching for parts was the day that brush-less motor showed it power and stripped the spur gear smooth. So the search began!!

I started at the local hobby shop which had wall to wall gears, tires, batteries and motors. The guy behind the counter asked what type of car i was running and I told him "an HSP". I saw this look in his eyes like he was saying to himself, I know them all and never head of that brand. My first thought was, oh no, now i am going to have a broke car with now way to fix it. So after some searching at the shops i started searching online by entering "HSP Xstr" in the search bar. All that i would come up with is videos of other people running their working cars.

I was getting so very frustrated watching other people with the same car and getting adds on where to buy it. So i just gave in and started enjoying some of the videos, when i noticed something, there were different paint schemes on a few. So i paused the video and zoomed in and saw this word exceed on one of the cars.

P>Low and behold after typing Exceed RCin the search bar, it came up with a picture of my car, and a full array of parts to order right of the site. If you are in the same spot as me reading blogs, I hope you took the time to read this one and that it saved some time and some of your frustrations.

anyone know a good way to diagnose what the problem is with a rc car? I took it apart and thought it would be easy to figure out... any sites that walk me through

When I looked at Exceed RC's page of spare parts for the HSP XSTR, low and behold, half of the parts were out of stock, including the ones I need! What good is a place that shows a picture of the car, and advertises that they have the parts I need, if they don't bother to keep them in stock??? Perhaps they'll have what someone else needs, but that bunch only added to my frustrations!

If you are looking for HSP spares or HSP parts in Australia (brisbane), myRC (http://www.myrc.com.au) stocks the cheapest HSP / HIMOTO / REDCAT / EXCEED / AMAX / Hispeed parts. The postage is a flat $4.70 anyware in Australia.

If you need help with maintenance then check out the forum at http://www.myrc.com.au/forum

Helipal sells every single part for this model, and alloy upgrades - the upgraded (thicker) alloy suspension towers are essential and half the price of anywhere else - and they are stocked well. Their customer service is EXCELLENT to boot. They seem to be the cheapest for parts I have needed and postage is by weight and fair. They have parts for all varients too. Also RCmods.co.uk sells the spares (not used them as more expensive, if quicker post as UK based)also wheelspinmodels.co.uk lists all parts for Maverick Strada series which as above is the same for all main parts (wheels and spoilers look different) more so on the new version, inc chassis.

So parts for these are very readily available.

Also the later xstr Pro versions should have the steel pinion and spur (and diff) gears so hopefully no issues with these as its brushless. you can get a steel 29t pinion (stock pro version is 26T steel) which reduces the torque at the wheels to make it more controllable (can still easily do donuts on tarmas tho!)but gives longer gearing for another 3-4mph. so about 40+ with 2s lipo 30c! A much better gearing mix.

The shocks are awful as the piston inside are to free flowing - easily remidied with some losi red pistons (might need to sand them down 0.5mm to fit). Easy to do and great result.

As well as the two models in the article, be aware that the Maverick Strada Evo S XB is also identical.
